Pharmaceuticals companies that fill sensitive drugs, particularly those with an alkaline pH, require glass packaging that will not interact with the product. To address the problem, Schott augmented its Everic line of vials with Everic care vials, which are made from Type 1 borosilicate glass and have a hydrophobic inner coating that prevents leaching.
The coating acts as a barrier for drugs with pH values greater than six, protecting against ion exchange between the glass and the product and assuring the drug’s stability and efficacy throughout its shelf life. As an additional benefit, the vial can be completely emptied.
The coating is applied to the glass using a patented plasma impulse chemical vapor coating technology.
