South of the Border, Cereal Packaging Packs Surprises

Video-South of the Border, Cereal Packaging Packs Surprises

Mexican cereal packaging eschews kid-friendly characters and clearly states nutritional deficits.

In these two short videos, visitors to Mexico take viewers into local stores to show how different cereal packaging is in that country vs. the United States. The Mexican cereal boxes are labeled with warnings of excessive, sugar, sodium, and calories on the front panel. In addition, the on-pack cartoon characters typically used to entice kids in the United States are either missing or covered with labels on the Mexican boxes.
